Summary:

Describes a procedure for using the pH armacia-LKB Ultrascan laser densitometer to determine the percent purity of protein preparations following separation by gel electrophoresis. Also describes the proper procedure for maintenance and calibration of the Ultrascan densitometer. Applies to the use of the laser densitometer for a determination of purity for any protein product following separation by SDS-PAGE or isoelectric focusing, as well as for measuring the migration distance of proteins in SDS-PAGE and IEF. Also applies to the use of the laser densitometer for a determination of migration distance for any protein product following separation by SDS-PAGE or isoelectric focusing.
