Full Description

Purchase of this standard includes Amendment 2.

This standard applies to inherently buoyant devices intended to be worn on the body to provide flotation in situations where a drowning hazard exists.

Note: Lifejackets conforming to this standard provide reasonable protection for the majority of individuals under most circumstances. It must be realized, however, that no single design can provide protection for all individuals under all circumstances. Lifejackets are intended to increase the chances of survival, but do not guarantee it. It is recommended that each individual secure a lifejacket suitable for his/her particular body type and size, and the kind of activity in which he/she is engaged. In the final analysis, the responsibility to ensure that a lifejacket is adequate and satisfactory for the particular user must rest with the individual concerned.
