1.SCOPE

1.1This standard applies to sealed insulating glass unitsfor use in windows, doors and curtain walls in buildingenvelope and to the testing of samples for the integrityand durability of the units hermetic seal only.

1.2The requirements contained herein are applicable toglazing units composed of two or three sheets of glassand glazed in recessed openings so that the edgeseals are shielded from direct weathering.

1.3The following types of applications have not beenconsidered in the preparation of this standard.

a. Testing of insulating glass units for structuraladhesive glazing where the unit edges are exposed.While insulating glass units for these applicationsshould be tested for seal durability to this standard,separate specifications, standards and testing arerequired to ensure the integrity of the seals andadhesive bonds when directly exposed to solarradiation and weathering.

b. Testing of permanently vented or "Capillary Tubeunits."

c. Testing of units containing grills, blinds, or anyother inserts.
