Full Description

This method is based upon the method of Cobb and Lowe (par. 11.3, Reference 1), Cobb (par. 11.3, Reference 2), and work done by Egy (par. 11.3, Reference 3) and Codwise (par. 11.3, Reference 4). The sources of these references are shown in the Notes section.

This method is best suited for determining water absorption of non-bibulous paper and paperboard 0.10 mm and over in thickness. It should not be used for the precise evaluation of writing properties where the resistance of the surface film to minute quantities of water is a dominant factor, such as writing with a pen.

The testing and evaluation of a product against this method may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this method has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.
