Full Description

This method determines the resistance of textile materials to deterioration by various micro-organisms present in biologically active soil. Although it is applicable to all types of textiles, the method is particularly applicable to the testing of cellulosic fabrics designed for outdoor use.

This test is more severe than the Fungus Damage Test (CAN/CGSB-4.2 No.28.1-M) and is recommended for evaluating the resistance of textile materials to deterioration by prolonged exposure outdoors, especially when contact with organic debris is likely.

Because of differences in biological activity between soil samples, care should be taken in comparing the results of this method obtained on different occasions using different soil samples.

The testing and evaluation of a product against this method may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this method has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.
