Bulletin / Circular published 06/07/2006 by Compressed Gas Association
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) classifies nitrous oxide as a nonflammable gas with a secondary hazard classification of oxidizer. Under normal operating conditions, nitrous oxide is a stable compound. Under certain conditions, generally in the presence of an ignition source, nitrous oxide vapor can decompose explosively.
SB-37 contains general safety guidelines that should be followed in design, construction, and operation of equipment handling nitrous oxide.
