American National Standard Procedures for Outdoor Measurement of Sound Pressure Level American National Standards of the Acoustical Society of America / 15-Jun-2009
Vendor Note:
This standard is the reaffirmation of the 1994 edition.
This American National Standard describes procedures for the measurement of sound pressure levels in the outdoorenvironment, considering the effects of the ground, the effects of refraction due to wind and temperature gradients, and theeffects due to turbulence. This standard is focused on measurement of sound pressure levels produced by specific sourcesoutdoors. The measured sound pressure levels can be used to calculate sound pressure levels at other distances from thesource or to extrapolate to other environmental conditions or to assess compliance with regulation. This standard describes twomethods to measure sound pressure levels outdoors. METHOD No. 1: general method, outlines conditions for routinemeasurements. METHOD No. 2: precision method, describes strict conditions for more accurate measurements. This standardassumes the measurement of A- weighted sound pressure level or time- averaged sound pressure level or octave, 1/3-octaveor narrow-band sound pressure level, but does not preclude determination of other sound descriptors.
