This standard provides minimum requirements for coal-tar protective exterior coatings and interior linings used in the potable water supply industry for buried steel water pipelines. All AWWA steel pipe coating standards are written for and based on the service temperature of potable water. For operating temperatures higher than the normal temperature of potable water, consult the manufacturer for recommendations concerning temperature limitations for coal-tar protective coatings and linings.
