Description / Abstract:
Material Description. This specification covers the properties of a black, exterior weatherable and elastomeric, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), molding compound. These materials are generally processed by extrusion molding processes, but for some simple applications they may be injected, e.g., glass lace molded corners. Materials are delineated by “Type” indicating indention hardness, and “Class” indicating compression set and identified in Appendix A, Table A1 and Table A2.
Symbols. The material abbreviation according to ISO 18064 is (PVC) .
Identification. PVC materials approved to this specification will be called out on the engineering drawing with the two attributes, e.g., GMW16048, Type 2, Class C, indicating a 60 ± 5 Shore A hardness PVC with 60% maximum compression set. In addition, if the nominal Shore hardness for a component is different than nominal type stated herein, it shall be called out specifically on the engineering drawing, e.g., Type 4 = 80 ± 5 Shore A, but, 82 Shore D is being used, so 82 ± X Shore A hardness shall be called out. GMW16048 types carrying an “LG” suffix as in, “Type 2LG”, indicates the material is a low gloss version.
Applicability. Typical applications include but are not restricted to the following: extruded fixed glass trim.
