This paper describes the development of an analytical instrument, the DynamicProbe, designed to monitor and profile a water or wastewater filter bed. Thisanalytical instrument is capable of measuring the available head at variouslocations across the filter bed in service and also the pressure at variouslocations across the filter bed during reverse flow (backwash). Additionally,this analyzer is able to communicate to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition(SCADA) computers and/or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) through an open,addressable communications protocol.
