Over the past 30 months, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) has looked at the impact on its water supply reservoirs of the gasoline additive methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). This paper discusses EBMUD's efforts to evaluate and control MTBE in its drinking water reservoirs. The methods they used to establish a control strategy include: monitoring programs; data evaluation; and, special studies and research.
