If only quantifiable costs and benefits are considered, SCADA systems are often not worth the money spent on them, but when the intangible benefits of more efficient system operation, increased operator satisfaction, centralized control, improved product quality, increased operator satisfaction, pumping costs, and others described in this paper are considered, SCADA systems are more than worth the money - they become a necessary part of a water system operation.
