The drinking water quality requirements viewed in this paper are based on the federal SDWA which was passed by Congress in 1974, and amended in 1986. The regulations affecting distribution systems discussed include: volatile organic chemicals rule; surface water treatment rule; total coliform rule; lead and copper rule; groundwater disinfectant rule; disinfectants and disinfectant by-products rule.
