Full Description

The Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD) has access to a large quantity of highly colored groundwater in the deep aquifer at the Dyer Road Well Field in Orange County, California. This groundwater supply may serve as a new source of local water for Orange County and reduce the dependency of local water purveyors on imported water. IRWD is currently evaluating treatment technologies to remove both color and disinfection byproduct precursors from this groundwater, which has color units as high as 200. The goal of this pilot project is to develop an effective and economical treatment strategy capable of turning highly colored groundwater into potable water of the highest quality.
