Full Description

Integrated resource planning (IRP) can be compared to any activity where probability and uncertainty influence decision making. For the past year in the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has been involved in an IRP process to chart its future direction in water resources. For Southern Nevada, IRP is a serious endeavor; the stakes are very high. The future economic well-being of Southern Nevada and the quality of the life for existing and future residents are on the table. This paper presents the main results of the SNWA IRP process with a focus on those aspects related to the regional water supply system serving Southern Nevada including reduction in peak demand, expansion of existing water facilities, wastewater reuse and groundwater recharge.
