Full Description

Several methods for monitoring the integrity of low pressure membranes were identified and evaluated using pilot-scale systems. These techniques included particle counting, particle monitoring, bubble point testing, air pressure-hold testing, and sonic sensing. The air pressure-hold test was found to be the most effective direct monitoring method for evaluating membrane integrity. The test, however, does not provide continuous integrity monitoring throughout the filtration cycle. Particle counting was found to be the most sensitive online method for continuous evaluation of membrane integrity.
